Hello Ladies

First check of the year!

This is natural comb the bees made in between the frames.... It's dark because they were using it as a walkway between the hive bodies.

I'm so happy they did so well through this crazy Kentucky winter, they kept up their numbers, look really healthy, and still have plenty of honey to make it through until Spring!

Snow Day

It snowed again today... And of course, these two little inches will basically shut down life as we know it.

So I thought instead of trying to get out, I'd go check on my bees...

They seem to be doing okay.   A few even came out, said hi, and attempted to sting me, per usual. :)  I'm anxious to know how they all coped through this crazy winter, Spring cannot come soon enough!

Knitted Winter Hat

After many restarts, and a lot of help from my talented Mom, I have finished my very first hat... Modeled by my very first boy :).

I used the same yarn as the scarf, and this was an interesting lesson in decreases and the importance of sizing, tension, and counting stitches.

I'm already planning on making this again with a lighter weight yarn to make more of a soft cap than a warm winter hat. :)

Basket Weave Scarf

After a few restarts... Here is my very first (successful) attempt at a scarf!  Mr. Owl looks cozy doesn't he?

I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease in wheat and size 13 needles.  I decided on basket weave instead of a simple garter stitch to prevent curling, and then improvised a pattern to have it be the length and width I wanted. :)

Tastes like summer...

I've finally made jam out of all the berries that have been living in my freezer since the summer... Lots of jam, in the end I came out with about twenty jars.  Turns out it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be, I used the nifty instructions that came with the sugar free pectin and voila!  Yumtastic blackberry goodness.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...

It's also a new year, a new job, and a new blog for me, a blog that will be filled with yumminess, and randomness, mostly randomness :).
